2 cups of coffee

1 coke zero

1 tablet of melatonin in my future?

writer’s block

1/6 pages written

0 organization

4 days till due date…of rough draft

eccentricity is probably a common trait of all good writers, but currently i fear that it keeps me from becoming one. or practicing as one.

a journalism major is probably a bad idea

i’m using this in a paper, and my teacher thinks that African American kids don’t have access to education…i say if they want it, anything can be done with drive and sacrifice

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

–R.K

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.”

And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.

i’ve always had a problem with the phrase “faith expressed in love” because i associate it with an excuse or something…i guess i’ve always thought we should just love, without alterior motives…that made more sense in my head

ASTHMA ATTACK by etgar keret

When you have an asthma attack, you can’t breathe. When you can’t breathe, you can hardly talk. To make a sentence all you get is the air in your lungs. Which isn’t much. Three to six words, if that. You learn the value of words. You rummage through the jumble in your head. Choose the crucial ones—those cost you too. Let healthy people toss out whatever comes to mind, the way you throw out the garbage. When an asthmatic says “I love you,” and when an asthmatic says “I love you madly,” there’s a difference. The difference of a word. A word’s a lot. It could be stop, or inhaler. It could even be ambulance.

the other day in church, the pastor asked everyone in the congregation to stand up if they were experiencing a trying situation…and i stayed sitting. it took him saying that for me to realize that i’m doing alright right now. there are things that i want, and things that kind of hurt, but no longing or pain is compromising the quality of my life, and i should be thankful for that. i feel very fortunate for that. we’ve weathered some storms, my loves, but it seems to me that all storms pass. they are real, and some are violent, and some capsize ships, but they end. peace is real. it is possible to live a happy life. and i think a huge part of that lies in learning to let people go when its healthy to, and in being polite and friendly to everyone. it pays to be able to make fun of yourself. manners are worth having. hospitality is worth recognizing. people who complain (including myself) do so because they feel entitled to better treatment. but thats no way to be happy, and its annoying anyway. expect nothing from people. never guilt trip, nag, or manipulate…im just sayin
